LIBRARY
The Ojo Sarco Community Center and Library (OSCCL) is designated as a developing library through the New Mexico State Library system. Our book collection is available for check-out and library cards are provided to anyone interested in borrowing books. Additional collections and resources not available onsite are accessible through interlibrary loan.
Through the library, community members have access to two on site computers, guest Wi-Fi, scanning, printing, copying, and assistance with basic technology – including help with scheduling online appointments and finding online resources. Notary services are also available by appointment.
More information can be found on this website in LIBRARY.
DOLLY PARTON IMAGINATION LIBRARY
OSCCL partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. All children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of families served by OSCCL are eligible! Contact us to enroll the children in your family.
COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY
OSCCL partners with The Food Depot to provide a drive-up community food pantry. Food distributions are on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:30am to 10:30am. With support from The Food Depot, regional grants, and personal donations, we provide shelf-stable items and fruits and vegetables. Occasionally, we can add meat, dairy, and eggs as well as essential supplies such as menstrual products. We request that community members sign up once to get on our list so we can plan for enough food bags. Emergency food is available beyond this schedule if needed.
EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR FALL PREVENTION
OSCCL is a member of the New Mexico Adult Fall Prevention Coalition, and we offer a bi-weekly exercise and fall prevention class. The class takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 10:00am and focuses on strength and balance training. Gentle exercises are designed specifically for seniors.
YOUTH SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM
OSCCL partners with the Peñasco Independent School District to host a free summer lunch program for children aged 18 and younger, typically starting in early June. Meals are free, with no registration required, and provided on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to serving lunch, OSCCL facilitates daily activities including book reading and literacy programming, hands-on STEAM projects and interactive presentations, and outdoor play.
OUTDOOR PLAYGROUND
The outdoor yard at OSCCL includes community access to a basketball court with two hoops, tetherball, play structures, benches, and a concrete pad.
COLLEGE AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Support is available on a walk-in basis and by appointment for navigating college admission and searching for and applying for scholarships. Community members can also receive support with organizing and proofreading resumes, cover letters, and other job application materials.
DETOUR CAFÉ
Community members partner with OSCCL to host a monthly social gathering called DeTour Café. Community members enjoy free coffee, tea, and baked goods and collaborate on art and other activities recommended by participants. This is a great informal setting for meeting neighbors and sharing information and resources.
Please visit the CALENDAR section of the website for upcoming dates.
COMMUNITY OUTINGS
Occasionally, OSCCL hosts trips to encourage the strengthening of community, identity, and collaboration. Examples of previous trips include visiting museums, the zoo, or participating in cultural events. Other trips have included visiting the Santa Fe Opera, bowling, and the Rio Arriba County Fair. Upcoming trips can be found on the CALENDAR section of the website or through the Newsletter.
HIGH ROAD ART TOUR
OSCCL serves as a host site for community members who want to participate as vendors for the annual High Road Art Tour. Taking place during the last two full weekends of September, the Tour allows visitors to see multiple crafts and arts, both traditional and contemporary, created by local artists along the High Road to Taos. Visitors can meet and purchase directly from artists, learning about their inspiration and artistic process. Any artists who want to request space at the OSCCL simply need to contact us ahead of the Tour. Space is allocated on a first come first serve basis. More information on the High Road Art Tour can be found at https://www.highroadnewmexico.com/
COMMUNITY RESILIENCY SITE/SOLAR POWERED
In 2024, OSCCL was selected to receive the donation of a 2kW Solar Electric System from Paradise Power Company, Inc. (PPC Solar, Inc.) The solar system allows OSCCL to serve as a community resiliency site and power resource. During power outages, we can provide access to internet, Wi-Fi, and have availability to plug in medical equipment and other necessary devices.
